Singalila Trek, a recently opened route, takes you on a 15-day adventure through the southwest region of Darjeeling. This trek offers several days of hiking along the Singalila Range, a lesser mountain chain that stretches from the hills of Darjeeling to meet the majestic Kanchenjunga massif.
The Singalila Range also serves as the natural boundary between Sikkim, Darjeeling, and Nepal. As you ascend this ridge, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views on both sides, blooming rhododendrons in season, and occasional encounters with yak herders.
Embark on a scenic six-hour drive from Gangtok to Uttarey. During this journey, you will traverse valleys and hills adorned with diverse vegetation, crossing the majestic Rangeet River before reaching Pemayangtse (2,100 meters). Nestled amidst breathtaking Himalayan views, Pemayangtse offers a tranquil sanctuary for your stay.
After crossing some awe-inspiring bridges, you will arrive at the roadhead in Uttarey (2,000 meters). Spend the evening at a trekking lodge, where you will meet the local team that will accompany you on your upcoming adventure.
Begin your trek to Chiwa Bhanjyang, a mountain at an elevation of 3,100 meters. The trail gradually ascends through a verdant rainforest, culminating in a steep ascent to the Nepalese border.
Here, you’ll camp for the night.
Acclimate to the altitude over a day by hiking to the Singalila Peak (3,500 meters). The ascent provides panoramic views and facilitates adaptation to the elevated environment.
Overnight at camp.
Continue your ascent, traversing through verdant forests and expansive hillsides to reach the first pass. From there, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of distant mountains.
Camp at Dhor (3,800 m) in a secluded hollow nestled beneath the ridge.
Witness a breathtaking sunrise over the majestic peaks of Everest and Kanchenjunga. This exhilarating trek involves descending and ascending along picturesque ridges before reaching the summit of Pare Megu (3,800 meters).
Here, you will find a comfortable campsite situated near a charming shepherd’s settlement.
Embark on a scenic hiking trail that traverses the verdant woods, gradually ascending to the elevation of Lam Pokhari (4,300 meters). Immerse yourself in panoramic vistas of the majestic Kabru range.
Conclude your day with a restful camp, fortifying yourself for the adventures that await on the morrow.
Embark on an exhilarating trek through the majestic Himalayas, traversing the picturesque route from Lam Pokhari to Gomathang. As you ascend into the high mountain terrain, you will be captivated by the sacred lake of Lam Pokhari, whose waters mirror the surrounding mountains. Continue your ascent, reaching the awe-inspiring Danphe Bhir La (4,530 m) and Kag Bhir La passes. From these lofty heights, you will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the majestic Himalayas, stretching out before you like a celestial canvas.
As the day draws to a close, descend to your riverside camp at Gomathang (3,900 m), where you will find a serene haven amidst the wilderness.
Traverse the verdant forests of fir and rhododendron before ascending precipitous crags. Cross the Kamsey La pass (4,200 meters) and descend to camp at Pangden (4,100 meters) along the banks of the Tikip Chu river.
Join the regular trail that leads to Goecha La. This trail traverses juniper and rhododendron forests and culminates in Dzongri, a summer pasture area where you will camp.
Descend to Kokchulang and ascend the valley to your campsite near Samiti Lake, situated below Lamuney.
Ascend steeply behind Samiti Lake, entering alpine terrain. Camp at Zemathang, situated immediately below Goecha La.
Embark on an early trek to Goecha La (4,940 m), where you will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Kanchenjunga. After reaching Goecha La, return to Thangshing for a restful respite.
Descend to Tshoka, a picturesque Tibetan village—your initial encounter with established communities during this trek.
Embark on an exhilarating journey through a verdant rainforest, ablaze with avian life and vibrant flora. Ascend awe-inspiring suspension bridges spanning tranquil rivers, propelling you towards the tranquil destination of Yuksam.
Conclude your trek with a memorable night at a traditional hilltop hotel, where you will be celebrated by your esteemed crew.
